TRILBYS
French -British writer George du Mauriers coined the term ‘Trilby’ in his novel of the same name in 1894. When the stage adaptation was created, the lead actress wore a hat with a ‘shorter brim, angled down at the front and slightly turned up at the back’. This short-brimmed game changer was dubbed the “Trilby” and quickly became the crowning glory of the 19th century gentleman. The trilby remains a firm favourite amongst headwear aficionados.
